Kirsty MacColl was the daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl (1915–1989) and dancer Jean Newlove (1923–2017). Her father was born in England of Scottish parents. She and her brother, Hamish MacColl, grew up with their mother in Croydon, where Kirsty attended Park Hill Primary School, Monks Hill High School and John Newnham High School, making appearances in school plays. Galore became MacColl's only album to reach the top 10 in the UK Albums Chart, but neither of the new singles, nor a re-released "Days", made the Top 40. MacColl did not record again for several years; her frustration with the music business was exacerbated by a lengthy case of writer's block  .

A Concert For Kirsty MacColl' featuring live performances of Kirsty MacColl songs by Ellie Goulding, Amy MacDonald, Alison Moyet and more. Along with her penchant for perfect pop - and later Latin music - Kirsty could also turn her hand to country, and 'Don't Come The Cowboy With Me, Sonny Jim!' (from her 1989 album Kite) is a great example of Kirsty's skill as a songwriter. The video, interspersed with old Shirley Temple footage, finds Kirsty in world-weary form as she laments the shortcomings of her lover: something she was exceptionally.

Galore is a compilation album released by Kirsty MacColl in 1995. It features material previously released on the albums Desperate Character, Kite, Electric Landlady and Titanic Days, among other tracks by MacColl, totalling eighteen songs. On release the album peaked at No. 6, MacColl's highest ever charting album. Don't Come The Cowboy With Me Sonny Jim!" - 3:46. Walking Down Madison" - 4:37.

Don’t be too rough on my cold, cold heart It’s all I’ve got left to me now I fell out of favour with heaven somewhere And I’m here for the hell of it now. Some girls play cowboys And some boys play harder to get But they’re got just the same They smile and say cheese They’re so eager to please But they’ll never remember your name The names and the places all change. So don’t come the cowboy with me Sonny Jim I know lots of those and you’re not one of them There’s a light in your eyes tells me somebody’s in And you won’t come the cowboy. Oh don’t come the cowboy with me Sonny Jim I know lots of those and you’re not one of them There’s a light in your eyes tells me somebody’s in And you won’t come the cowboy with me. Cover Versions. Kelly Willis is based in Austin, Texas. On her 2002 CD ‘Easy’, she covers ‘Cowboy’.
