Conspiracy is the fourth studio album by King Diamond, being the second part of a story that begun on the album "Them". It was released in 1989. The song "Cremation" appears in the 2009 video game Brütal Legend. Conspiracy is the last album to feature drummer Mikkey Dee who left the group but recorded the album as a session member. In this sequel to "Them", an adult King returns to the House of Amon to reclaim his rightful place as heir to the house.

Again, every King Diamond-album is conseptual, telling a horror story (at least the albums after ’Fatal Portrait’ do) which I think is a big part of the whole experience. Conspiracy is like a sequel to the story in ’Them’. So, to understand the album better, listening to ’Them’ first is recommended. The main characters of this fictional story are King Diamond, his dead sister Missy, his mother, Dr. Landau and ’Them’, which are ghost-like creatures or spirits, whatever
Still, for all its narrative flaws and inconsistent songwriting, some King Diamond fans insist on defending Conspiracy exactly because it isn't as explicitly spelled out as prior works, therefore leaving some of the work for their own imaginations.
